As a designer I want to be able to incorporate charitable ethics into all products I design and manufacture to raise awareness for causes. So for this project 10% of proceeds raised from sales of the light will go to firefighters in Australia to help with bush fire prevention.
With the prevalence of bush fires in Australia I thought it was important to highlight the brave people who deal with fires and the outcomes of uncontrolled fires every day. “The Rural Fire Service (RFS) is the volunteer side of the Queensland Fire and Emergency Services (QFES), and provides fire services to 93% of Queensland. The RFS is made up of approximately 36,000 volunteers, including 2400 Fire Wardens, who make up approximately 1500 rural fire brigades.” (Ruralfire.qld.gov.au, 2017)
The following message will be printed on the packaging;
“Thank you for buying the Flame lamp! With every lamp sold, 10% of profits are donated to Firefighters Australia to help combat bush fires. Our lamp is made with 100% FSC certified hoop pine plywood from Queensland, Australia. This cuts down on our carbon footprint as well as helping local businesses and ensuring the highest quality products for your home!”
The lamp is made with no additional glue or fittings, so can be easily broken down for recycling.
