Shoulder pads have been used in women's fashion since the 30's to convey many things, but mainly the message was one of power! From women entering the work force due to war and shifting gender roles to 80's boardroom fashion and competing in a male dominated arena, shoulder pads have been iconic to women's fashion history.
I wanted to develop designs with a similiar energy. Creating wearable 3D printed designs that worked with mesh and tulle as a substructure. As this project went along, I found that the button and buckle sizes suggested were too big. Another setback was range of colours and designs. So I designed my own buckle and buttons and scaled them down to fit. The next prototype dealt with enclosing the pattern into a sleeve and creating another silhouette.
